APRIL IS FAMILY STRENGTH AND SUPPORT MONTH

APRIL IS FAMILY STRENGTH AND SUPPORT MONTH

Formerly recognized as Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month, this month-long campaign aims to spotlight simple yet impactful actions that can transform the lives of children by bolstering families and communities. Throughout April, our partners at Prevent Child Abuse New York (PCANY) spearheads a crucial initiative: Family Strength and Support Month.

At the heart of child abuse prevention lies the mission to dismantle barriers to healthy parenting. Individuals demonstrate a collective commitment to support and nurture every child's well-being by actively engaging with families in their communities. This transition to Family Strength and Support Month underscores PCANY's dedication to proactive intervention and addressing issues before they escalate.

Central to this effort is the cultivation of resilient, supportive communities that prioritize the welfare of families. When parents feel supported and equipped with resources, they can effectively navigate parenting challenges. NYSCADV and PCANY emphasize the importance of protective factors, pillars of strength for families facing adversity.

During Family Strength and Support Month, you can support families by:

  • Show solidarity by wearing blue on National Go Blue Day and Go Blue Day in NYS and share selfies on social media using the hashtag #GoBlue4NYKids.
  • ·Organize events such as press conferences, pinwheel gardens, or awareness-raising walks to highlight the importance of family support and strength.
  • Share event details and photos with PCANY to be featured in monthly promotional activities and receive recognition as a Prevention Champion.
